Why does IBHS Music need volunteers?
It takes so much for a band program to flourish; but more specifically it takes funding and supervision.
For funding, the music program runs the Concession Stand at home Bulldog sporting events, especially the very football games at which the Marching Bulldogs perform.
And for supervision, when we take so many young people on the road for events (away games, competitions, parades, performances) we need adults to accompany them according to school district policy.
And so…
Can you spare a few hours once this year?
It’s expected that every parent be able to donate at least one volunteering opportunity this year, so that the work gets spread out evenly. We totally understand crazy busy schedules, so we have opportunities to fit everyone’s needs and abilities.
Opportunities
We have opportunities for anyone who’d like to get involved! These are just a few of the most common examples of jobs that need doing at band events.
Event Volunteer
We need chaperones for competitions, parades and other fun events like group trips to Busch Gardens! By chaperoning, you’d be responsible for helping out the staff in looking after the kids during a specified time.
Concessions
We need helpers in the concessions stand so that we can raise money for our band program. This involves preparing food items, ringing people up, running things from the grill, and handing out tasty treats.
Grill Helper
We want you to help cook up some delicious burgers and dogs. Come and stay for the game while helping to feed our students, staff and crowd and you’ll get to do some good and fund the band. too.
Water
Come join us for a game and pass out water to hot, thirsty students. While you are keeping on top of hydration, you’ll get to enjoy the game (and watching your student!) for free.
Step-in Staff
Sometimes we just need an extra hand with some things. From organizing students to helping to move equipment, if you are able to help out here and there, this opportunity could be for you.
Uniform Finders
Band students need uniforms, and what’s more, they need uniforms that fit. Sometimes this can overwhelm the staff at hand, so extra help is never turned away! Fitting uniforms is easy and a well fitted uniform helps your student look and feel their best.

For those in a time crunch
Busy schedule but still want to help out?
Volunteering doesn’t have to come with a huge time commitment, sometimes you don’t even have to leave your home! These items below might seem insignificant, but in reality they help the band immensely!

Arrange No Cook Nights
This involves calling up a restaurant and asking them about they fundraising programs. From here we would coordinate and get it scheduled.

Send in some snacks
Teens are hungry, teens who are working hard are even hungrier. We welcome donations of snacks and drinks – we go through them quickly!

Find a sponsor
Sometimes all it takes is a simple FB post and bam, we have a sponsor helping us out with something we need, like trailer tires or band backpacks.

Tow the Trailer
Each time we leave the school, we need our music trailer towed to the event. We offer gas reimbursement and you’ll also get to enjoy the game at no cost.
