Do you need an instrument to join?

Ida Baker will try and provide an instrument to any students that do not have one. If the school runs out of Instruments to loan to students, the student will need to rent/purchase one from Cadence Music. If a student goes through the Cadence Music website, the store will deliver any instruments or items that were purchased to Ida Baker HS

What else does my student need?

Some things that your student will need in addition to their band shirt and uniform, will be black socks, shorts, and a waterbottle.

For practice and performances, they’ll want to bring their instruments and anything they would need on the field. Other items they may want to have on hand is sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses and a snack.

It is imperitive that your student has eaten and is well hydrated before coming to practices & performances. Not doing so increases the chances of heat illness while out on the field.

Can I come and watch my student play?

Absolutely, we encourage it! Your student works hard, and they would love to see your face cheering them on whenever you can make it. We also have lots of opportunites to get involved if you’d like to lend a helping hand while watching your kiddo perform.

Even if you can only come to one game or performance this year, it will make an impact on your student. They love getting to show you what they do!

What are the fundraisers for?

Our students are encouraged throughout the year to sign up for community volunteering and fundraising events. This helps fund the band and keep the fairshare cost as low as possible for parents as we do not receive funding otherwise.

What is a booster meeting?

Booster meetings are our way of keeping you informed of what’s going on in band, finding volunteers and opportunities that benefit the band and your student and answering any questions you may have. This quick meeting isn’t mandatory, but is a really useful tool for everyone involved.

Come get to know us and your fellow band parents before you pick up your kiddo from practice on the first Tuesday of each month!

Who can enroll in Marching Band?

We accept all students that are willing to learn into the band, as long as they meet Mr. Grubb’s marching band expectations.

Is practice mandatory?

Yes. Practice at the school as well as solo practice is incredibly important. Please try your hardest to get your student on-time to practices, games and other events. The call time (arrival time for students) will be listed on the calendar.

Please Note: While practice and games end at a certain time, your student will be putting their instrument and uniforms away after that which will take a few extra minutes.

Is there transportation?

The Lee County School District takes care of all transportation to away games, performances & competitions by bus. Please make sure your student is on time as the bus leaves promptly on schedule.

What are dinkles?

Dinkles are a specific marching shoe that is needed for all students. They are a part of their uniform, and if taken care of will last several years.

Other parts of their uniform are the Shako (hat), Plumme (feathers), Coat, Bibbers (overalls that go under the coat) band shirt and shorts. With so many layers you can see why it’s so important that they keep hydrated in our hot Florida Sun.
